The blend of this unique wine is 90% Weber Vineyard and 10% Courting Hill Vineyard. From both vineyards Rob chose just the Pommard clone for this wine. Weber and Courting Hill are very special to us. When Rob and Maria moved back to Oregon in 1994, Rob went to work at Erath Vineyards as Dick’s first official winemaker (other than himself). It was then that they met Vivian and Arthur Weber and Jimmy and Helen Leyden. Both couples were pioneering Oregon viticulturists and ultimately became dear friends, trusted sources of some of the best Pinot noir in the Willamette Valley and shining examples of why we love the Oregon wine community so much: they are great people doing fine work with the utmost integrity. The Webers started to plant their Dundee Hills Vineyard in 1975 and the Leydens began theirs in 1983. As such they are among the growers who formed the backbone of this industry. We’ve been working with their fruit for so long, we can’t imagine our cellar without several barrels of each.
In the beginning: medium ruby color, garnet edges, white pepper, cinnamon and tamarind, oranges.
In the middle: medium weight, elegant and lacy acids, Queen Anne cherry, pomegranate, ginger, tamarind.
At the end: the lingering taste of fresh red berries, plum and cherry. This is a wine that you will find tastes lovely now, but its charms will certainly be enhanced with time.
R. Stuart Winery is in a converted granary in downtown McMinnville. This is where we gather carefully selected fruit from some of our favorite vineyards. Our everyday Pinot noir and Pinot gris are bottled with the Big Fire label—a reflection of our passion for what we do. We blend the Big Fire wines to be friendly, lively and utterly drinkable. Most recently we have added our Love, Oregon wines to the family. These wines—a Pinot noir, a Rosé and a Chardonnay—pay homage the hardy souls who pioneered this beautiful state. Other wines bear the R. Stuart & Co. label. These are elegant Pinots, true to the fruit each vineyard offers.
