The history of wine in Oregon begins in our home, the Dundee Hills, so of course we would put together a blend indicative of our favorite place in the world. The first grapes of Pinot noir in the Willamette Valley were planted in the hills, along with hopes and dreams of a flourishing industry fueled by wine lovers from around the world. Our Tale of the Jory Pinot noir is a culmination of three vineyards, each a representative of the terroir of the Hills: Olson Estate Vineyard, Bella Vida Vineyard, and La Colina Vineyard. Each is tended to with care and all three are LIVE Certified, aiming to better our planet while they produce award-winning and beloved wine. You’ll taste the history in the old vines from Olson Estate Vineyard, our home vineyard, planted in 1972 and from which we pulled from our Coury selection for this blend. You’ll taste the rich depth of Jory soil from La Colina Vineyard, planted entirely in Jory soil in 1999 and from which we pulled Pommard clone. And you’ll taste fruity notes from Bella Vida Vineyard, planted in 1998. We used Clone 113 for this blend. The wine was then aged for 15 months in 60% new French oak. Our owner, Dr. Don Olson, was drawn to the close ties Pinot noir has to the earth and its ability to express terroir. This is the driving force of every wine we make, so each wine reflects our vision: elegant, balanced, Old World–style Pinot noir, which is exactly what Tale of the Jory is. Every wine tells a story and creates an experience. Our Tale of the Jory is a wine to reminisce and celebrate with, and most importantly, a nod to the unique history and splendid terroir of Oregon’s Dundee Hills.
Torii Mor Winery was founded in 1993 by Donald Olson, MD, who remains the owner to this day. Since its modest beginnings with just over 1,000 cases, Torii Mor has blossomed into a super-premium winery that focuses on small lots of handcrafted vineyard-designated Pinot noir with an annual production of 10,000 cases. With Burgundy in his blood, winemaker Jacques Tardy is passionately producing world-class Pinot noir in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. With a commitment to sustainability, Torii Mor has achieved LIVE certification for both our Olson Estate vineyard and our LEED Gold–certified winery, while continuing to craft high-quality, complex wines that possess a quiet elegance.
