The Wine

The 2019 Abbey Road Farm Clos Darcelle is a blend from three barrels and two vineyards: Carlton Hill Vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton and Rainsong Vineyard in the southern Willamette Valley. The black fruit and structured characteristics of Carlton Hill serve as a nice counterbalance to the very floral, savory, delicate nature of fruit that comes off of Rainsong. Harvest for each site was only a couple days apart in late September. Using native yeasts, all ferments were cool and slow—just the way we like it. Open-top primary fermentations took place until the wine was pressed and racked into a combination of barrels, half of which were new. The wine then aged for 18 months before bottling with no additions besides a small amount of sulfur. Like all of our Pinot noir wines, this lot was not fined or filtered.

The Winery

The winemaking team behind the Abbey Road Farm and Wilkens Reserve wines are James Rahn (director of winemaking), Luke Wylde (associate winemaker), and Adrienne Palmer (cellarmaster). Additionally Abbey Road Farm works as a collective, offering our winemaking teams’ own labels: James Rahn Wine Co., Statera Cellars, and Fruit Day, Inc. In doing so we offer a unique tasting experience that may introduce some to new varieties and styles while still offering the ones they’ve come to expect, all while enjoying the beautiful setting that is Abbey Road Farm.
