The Wine

Many moons ago, Demeter’s agrarian cult gathered at Eleusis in Ancient Greece in pursuit of soul. As the land awoke each spring and the wildflowers returned, the Eleusinian Mysteries became a celebration of Earth’s rebirth, symbolizing the eternity of life which flows from generation to generation—and as the story goes, it was one epic party. Basically the Coachella of Ancient Greece, but with much better wine.

In 2018 we procured our fifth vineyard to fuel our expanding biodynamic soul. This is our inaugural release from Corrine’s Vineyard, a storied Chehalem Mountains vineyard merely 30 acres in size but consisting of a labyrinth of soils overlaid with basalt topsoil. The result in bottle is singular, pensive, extraordinary. It will take lifetimes to truly understand what this place is saying, but we are elated to begin our pilgrimage to unravel her soul. Our first bottling comprises red and dark black fruits, minerality and an exhilarating finish. “Life” springs eternal.

The Winery

In 1978 Dr. Robert Gross and his wife Corrine planted Pinot noir and Chardonnay on the slopes of Cooper Mountain, west of Portland. They were attracted to the ideal of getting back to the land and raising their three kids where Corinne grew up, so they settled in the Willamette Valley to do just that.

In 1987, the family converted an old horse barn on the property to start their own label, becoming early adopters to organic and biodynamic farming practices in Oregon winemaking by the early 1990s. Ultimately they expanded to five biodynamic certified vineyards on over 250 acres, with 160 acres planted to vines.

Our land is our life and our life is our wine. Our roots in the Willamette Valley are what grounds us. We feel privileged to be a part of this landscape and to cultivate place.
